Short Films wanted for Public Television

I'm posting this call for shorts that I found elsewhere.

Thought some folks here might be interested in submitting their shorts.

Again, I have no affiliation, so any questions should go to the contacts within the posting that I'm pasting here :)

We are currently seeking short films for broadcast on a TV show for several markets in Ohio. If you have a movie under 20 minutes that you'd like to see broadcast in Columbus, Dayton, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, please submit me your movie. No nudity or any harsh language, please. Any movies with language or nudity selected will be edited with a BEEP or audio drop, as this is for regular broadcast television and must adhere to FCC laws. Any films over 10 minutes will be broken up by commercial breaks, so if you would like to self censor your movies before submission, that would be preferred.

You can download the submission form here:
www.sonnyboo.com/downloads/submissions.pdf

For submissions on tape, please have at least :30 seconds of bars & tone and :10 of black video before your video starts, and at least :20 seconds of black after or in between each short on the same tape.

FORMATS WE ACCEPT:
Mini DV, DVCAM, HDV 720, or HDV 1080
or
data files on a jumpdrive or DVD-R/CD-R:
Quicktime (H.264 for HD, no PRO-RES files, please)
Microsoft DV AVI
M2T format HD files
MP4

Fill that out and mail your submissions to:

There is no pay for broadcast, but it is exposure for yourself and your movies. Get your movies seen by new audiences and in several cities.

There is no pay for broadcast

Basically, they're looking for free content. IMO, if the content is good enough to fill their empty time slot, it's good enough that the creators deserve to be paid a fair value for it.

It's public television...and short films. There is a show similar here in ATL that I've had 7 short films appear on. I was glad to be selected.

How much are folks making on short films here?

I'll confess to having never made a dime on any short film I was ever involved with...

Anyway, just posted it as I figured some filmmakers would like to get their short films seen by more folks.

Having re-read the original post, there's no indication this is for public television. In fact, it specifically states that there will be commercials. Seems like somebody is making money from it. So I have to agree -- if you're making money from the content, then you should compensate the producers of that content.

I must have read public television into it since we have a similar show here in ATL.

My bad. I really just found it and posted it thinking folks might have an interest.

Oh well. If I were a filmmaker, I'd still submit.

Yeah....I probably would too. And will.

Wait.....what do you mean IF you WERE a filmmaker???

Apparently I'm not crazy...later in the thread (on the other board where I got it) - "Looks like we might get on every PBS station in the state! "

So, that's where I inferred it.

And yeah, "if I was a filmmaker" sounds crazy too...my bad.

I am just wrapped up in features at the moment and don't know when I'll have a new short any time soon. Lots of dvxers are doing a lot of short films.

I will likely submit some of my older stuff but it's one of those things that might take me 2 months to get to in terms of my "to do" list :)

A local NBC station is hungry for local programming. I got involved in a web show about local Restaurants and the TV station aired one of the episodes (with commercial breaks) over the summer and it actually beat reruns of Oprah and Two-and-a-Half Men when it aired. We didn't get paid anything for that showing, but we did get a sponsor for the show and we did get paid for 3 other shows they aired (actually, they split it into 3 two-minute commercial breaks and we were allowed to sell three 30-second spots as our pay.

They've ordered 6 more shows from us for the spring and we're discussing another show on local bars.

So things can work out well. And I have used it to get local Restaurants to pay me for web commercials.

That's excellent.

I'd love to do some programming with local television for a chance at some revenue sharing from Advertising.

Congratulations on the success.
