Short Film Cinematography #1 - "When It Hit"

I decided that I need to include some of my own material and not just someone else’s. I recently wrapped on a short film about five people trapped in a storage closet after disaster struck. There’s a subtle underlying theme about being “unfamiliar” with something. All five people are unfamiliar with each other, they are stuck in an unfamiliar room and they are all dealing with an unfamiliar situation. This gave me room to get creative with the lighting. And it’s pretty obvious that we only used two lights. The greenish color always gives a symbolic tone of the unfamiliar. And the orange/yellowish color is just a practical light that you would see in a storage closet. Combine the two and you can get nice blend of contrast. The room was about 4’x15’ and when you add another four people from the crew there, it got really hot and cramped there. The two lights I used were 250watt Lowell Pro-Lights. With the orange/yellowish light clamped in the center ceiling and the greenish light on a stand that kept moving from shot to shot. I also had a 5-in-1 reflector that I used for a few shots. Below are some frames from the raw footage. (keep in mind that this hasn't been color corrected yet and are low res frame grabs from the raw footage)

I will now be taking questions from the press

It kind of evokes the below-decks of a ship. In a good way: it sells tight and claustrophobic and (at least in stills) makes it feel like more than a closet.

Thanks, I switched between using a 14mm prime and going in close and using a 50mm while staying further out
