Did anyone report back if they got it or not? I hate when people don't follow up on their posts...

Possible Solution for Short D4 cables.

Possible Solution for Short D4 cables.

The Wiki page for the D4 connector lists it as the same as Apples old AAUI connector that was used to connect to ethernet networks back in the early 90s. A quick ebay search turned up a bunch of old AAUI devices with what looks like a D4 connector attached to the Ethernet Break Out Box. I've ordered one to see If this can be a source for more reliable D4 connectors and short cables for soldering BNCs. I'll upload more info after the AAUI box arrives and I can build a test cable.

Yup. Mines has been shipped as well and might be at work today. Crawling my sore form out of bed to go and recover my LCD and whatever other goodies may have arrived!

Oh, and DANG! What's UP, David!? Haven't talked to you in ages!

Holy crap. The D4 Cable came! This thing is literally like 12 inches long at best! And I got the connectors to make it work at the same time.

HVX is at home, gotta go and get it. Will get pictures soon but it's short! w00t

Internet high-five!

The little monoprice connectors are solid, too. Once they're on, takes a little to wrench 'em off!

love monoprice. if I were to place an order in the morning, i would not be surprised if it showed up that afternoon.

Thanks for following up for the community on the link you posted a long time ago.

You know, so that people could actually get one instead of re-asking about it.

I hooked mine up with a component splitter and it works great i will see if i can still find where i got it from

I was being sarcastic.

You never went back to that thread to say that you found it, it worked, it's working, etc.

Everyone shares their knowledge on the forum... so that others can be helped. Follow-ups to stuff are greatly appreciated.

That's just a splitter. It doesn't actually make the cable shorter, just longer.

=P And Monoprice sells them for less.

Did you get a shorter D4 Cable? I think the place Zak and I ordered from is going to run out soon so it'd be good to have another source.

Do you get a double terminated signal with this splitter (it will show as a decrease in luminance)?

Kholi, I've been well, it has been too long. We've moved to a new larger office near Knotts Berry Farm with room for offices, edit bay and a small stage, you should come by and check it out when we finish the build out.

My ebay exploritory purchase came and indeed, the Network Adapter connector is a match for the D4 connector, now I just need to see if the pin out is the same then its on to soldering a BNC breakout box.

Thought I would chime in on something interesting that I failed to notice about this D4 Cable. The original D4 Cable that comes with the camera is a POS. You look or breathe on it and the signal goes out. I was inclined to believe it was MY camera but it happens with just about everyone I come in contact with.

The Short D4 can be wiggled to all hell and it actually keeps the signal. Gonna have to get another one of these, as my longer D4 finally kicked the bucket.

And to answer that REALLY old question above this one: no signal degradation. I've used the splitter with a 50ft Component cable with great results.
