I could not understand why the post edit ripple was not working (using shortcuts) and then I tried it from the pull down menu and all was ok
any ideas?

Post edit ripple only works if it’s the very next thing that you do after a move or delete. Try this. Take an event and put two split points in it and delete the new center event between the split points. You should see a hole where the split event was. Now press the ‘f’ key (the default for post edit ripple) and you should see the right-hand even slide to the left to fill in the hole.
