Short cut for speed change.

For those of you who know final cut well, this should (hopefully) not be confusing.

I want to know if there is a way to speed up or slow down a clip in the timeline, by like, holding down the "shift" key when I drag the edge of the clip. The reason why, is sometimes I have a clip that's not long enough (in animation it happens!) and I need it to fill a certain space. So I need to slow it down a bit to make it fit that gap. It usually works and looks good, but it's a hassle to lock all the layers so they won't be affected by the speed change and count frames or guess on how much to slow it down to fill the gap. Does this make sense? Basically I'm asking if there is a hot key that will save me time.

For those not as familiar, when you put the mouse over the edge of a clip in the timeline, the pointer changes to a new tool, and you can lengthen the clip like unrolling a piece of tape, using more of the clip you haven't at this point. What I want to do is not use more of the original clip, but "stretch" the used portion to fit a longer gap in the timeline. Anyway, thanks for your help, I couldn't find it in the manual.

Hey Joe-
This isn't gonna be exactly what you're looking for but it's damn close. Put your playhead at the head of the gap, mark the in point and then mark the out at the end of the gap. Mark the in and out of the clip in the viewer as well and then perform a Fit to Fill edit (I think it's the purple, but don't quote me on that) by dragging the clip on top of the canvas. If this doesn't work out for what you're trying to do let me know and I'll try to think of something else.
Peace,

-Harry
