Short 16mm Student Project

I like it, I am actually shooting 16mm for my first time. I'm the first person to shoot film in over 5 years at my school belive it or not.... I'm broke, so I'm shooting B&W reversal film, I might transfer it myself, my old professor has some equipment to project through. What lab did you use? I need atleast processing and a work print by friday if at all possible, hahaha.

Try these guys for processing: http://www.yalefilmandvideo.com/
or http://www.alphacine.com/
I have never used Yale Film and Video, but they and alphacine are one of the few reversal b/w film labs. Alphacine has always done a reasonable job with b/w. I hear Yale will not process nudity, so call them before hand if your expect to photograph naked people or simulated sex.

I used to use Bono films on the east coast, but I don't think they do processing anymore which is really too bad. Oy vey, the times we live in!

Watch your exposures like a hawk when shooting reversal. One stop off and you could be screwing it up.

Tri-X reversal I like a lot better than double-x negative. Double-x tends to look pretty flat, wheres tri-x reversal can have lovely tonality, and fine grain if exposed and processed correctly. But when shooting reversal, get it transferred to video ASAP to avoid scratches.

Go for it.

Yale is great - especially since you are in the Los Angeles area. They have great people and do a good job. I have personally used them for a dozen years or so.

alphacine is great too. I don't think you would want to have ship you film seattle when they another great transferring company nearby.

Great work. I haven't had a chance yet to work with film but thats next on my list.

Great work!

Ive heard Yale doesn't do nudity and heard bad rumors about them, that I won't discuss here. But Alphacine is highly recommended, and they have a no opinion policy on personal content. I've also heard Spectra is supposed to be good in L.A. area as well. PS..I won't discuss any further about the prior statement, so don't ask.

I can vouch for Spectra. I've done a number of transactions with them and I can safely say they do an A+ job on developing and telecine's. Plus they do not censor your content. :)

great work man, for 100ft roll shoot, you nailed it!

I've been happy with Yale.
the cost to prosecc & transfer is about $80 for 100ft. I'd recomend them.

What lenses did you use?

We were very limited in the lens department because of where we filmed the nice dinner scene. Since we shot on tungsten film and we could not CTO the large number of windows in the place, we had to put an 85B on the camera, of which we only had one size. It only fit on the zoom lens, an Angenieux 12-120mm.
