shopping for Color correction software

I'm looking at color correction and compositing software for mac and I will either go with combustion or shake. Since I can't justify the cost of shake, it'll probably be combustion. One of the reasons I like it is that it uses the same basic color correction tools of it's bigger brothers.

Color Finesse is nice from what I've seen, but I haven't really played with it. But at $600 for the program, well that's a little steep for just color correction tools... Now that Combustion 4 added the color correction tools from the bigger discreet programs, I think it might be a better value, since the whole program costs about a grand. Plus if you do ever go to a bigger system like smoke or inferno, it should be the same no?

I'm no expert on this so if I'm wrong please tell me. Is color finesse really worth six bills by itself over say combustion or shake?

Well Shake is not a dedicated color correction tool, it's a compositing and effects tool that has, from what I understand, some really good color correction tools. Same with Combustion 4. Color finesse may be better from a strict color correction standpoint, but I don't know if there's anything you can do with it, that you couldn't do in say combustion. For a while, if you bought After Effects you received a copy of Color Finesse - I don't know if that's still true or not.

Color finess is awesome. Whether it's worth 600$ is something you will have to determine for yourself. Download the demo. I got a free copy with AE6.54 pro and it absolutely rocks.
