I was most surprised with the Hahnel MK200. It may just have the most balanced all around sound. I need to do more tests. I haven't seen any for sale in America yet. They had sent me earlier versions to test for them, and I rejected them both. They were noisy, and lacked fidelity. Now they have it down. I also like the Que MSG-Pro. It seemed bright in this setting, but when I used it outside with a friend using it on his 60D, it sounded full and sharp. For slapping something on your camera for running around, I think all of these are good.
I just went the Rode Video Mic pro direction because of the Plural eyes deal, to get a free microphone/program whichever way one want to see it. I'm also wondering if the AG-MC200 i got with my HMC151 belongs to the same category?
ggrantly, the AT875 probably sounds better than all of these mics. I categorize these as 'mini shotguns' not just because of their size, but because they are battery powered and have 3.5mm connectors. Something you can slap on a consumer camcorder, or a DSLR. Anyway, I think all 4 are of good quality, but all have a different flavor. I think I should have engaged the low-cut in the VideoMic pro, as it sounded pretty tubby to me. I just tested them all going into the new GoPro Hero 3, and the 20db boost is not great combined with the AGC, however the 10db boost of the Hahnel and the Que match the GoPro AGC pretty well. 0 db gain is too low. I'll be posting a video about that eventually. The weather is so bad here in Northern California that I've had to stop doing the aerial videos I've gotten into over the last year, and now I'm stuck inside doing audio/video tests again!
