ShOOTING w/ ANAMORPHIC in SQUEEZE MODE

Hey guys I recently started filming my new movie and we started a pretty epic scene using an anamorphic in squeeze which can't be reshot. For continuity, were going to continue shooting in squeeze. For my project settings, to make my frame the right aspect ratio, what should I do to my picture?

You would get approximately a 2.37:1 aspect ratio - which, yes, is close enough to 2.35 that it's not worth mentioning (today's standard is 2.39:1, anyways - so again, no worries).

You'll have to shrink down the image from a fully anamorphic 2.37 image to a letterboxed version. Assuming you'll want a 16:9 master, you would end up with minimal bands on the top and bottom. I don't use Vegas, so I don't know specifically what you'd be doing in there, but that's what your image will need to have done with it.

Alright, now were getting somewhere, thanks Mike! Anyone who might know Vegas and the project settings I need Please help!!!!!!

Hey can you by any chance show me screen grabs of what you shot with you anamorphic lens, because i was wondering, when you use the lens and render it in widescreen and put it to dvd are the bars bigger or smaller then the ones on the standard letterbox on the DVX-100.

the way I shot it they are a lot bigger I feel like it's actually slightly wider then the starwars movies I will post some grabs in the screengrab forum soon look for "Fallen Soldier".

if you do the math correctly, you would get an image with 2,2:1 aspect ratios. in other words not as wide as the 2,35:1 used in the star wars movies.

i bought my dvx and an anamorphic adaptor to do a short film in hdtv resolution, so instead of downscaling the image, i strech it sideways... my final resolution will the be 1280x720 at 25P with black bars at top and bottom of the screen. the image quality is good

Avatuar, if you don't have Barry Green's book, get it. I don't have it in front of me, but I remember him specifically discussing that very question (maybe it was in a post). Perhaps message him, or ask the Q in the DVX/Tech section to get his attention?

Anyway, I remember him stating that the two kind of work against each other, or cancel each other out, or something to that effect ... basically, it wasn't going to give you the cinema-scope look that you're asking about. In fact, I'm not really sure HOW to get the footage to work (without cropping w/black bars in Vegas) for the cinema-scope look that you can render out to in MPEG2 ... everytime I try, I just have black empty space at the ends of the clip/image ... like the frame is too wide for my image.

Sorry, I know it's not answering your question, but I don't believe you'll get anything other than 16x9 footage with what you shot.

If anyone els can post some screengrabs of 16:9 images using the widescreen adapter that would be great!
