Shooting Television set with 16mm

What will it look like if I shoot a television set with a bolex? Because the bolex will be set at 24 FPS will this make the television set look like bars are running down it or that it is flickering or will the television and what's on it be visible?

the bars will not occur, this is because of the frequency of the tele, but with a film camera you arent using digital media so it wont have the bars going down the tv. i duno about flickering tho
 
Yes the bars will occur. A Bolex is troublesome because it doesn't have a crystal motor, so even if you were using the exact right shutter angle (144 degrees) the speed of the camera won't be fixed so you'll still get some bars.
 
I know a film I worked on they shot a TV with an Aaton XTR prod super16. I don't think they had an issue. Granted I never saw the final print...but the XTR prod is a 90,000 dollar camera with crystal sync...

The bloex is a wild motor, so it won't be true 24fps...I can't tell you either way.
 
YOu will still get bars with a cyrstal sync camera at 24fps with a 180 degree shutter. If there is a variable shutter, alot of times you can get a no bars with a 144 degree shutter. Just run the camera without the mag to see. Otherwisew you can rent a sync box for most cameras that you place in the back of the TV and runs a wire to the camera. Pretty easy to set up.
