Shooting SUN !!!

:Drogar-BlackEye(DBG I want to shoot the sun directly. I know it can't be possible with bare DVX100B as it is going to fry the CCDs inside. I want to shoot an establishing shot starting with the sun or ending to it. Also, there would be shots where the sun is in the background shining full-blown and all foreground subjects are back-lighted. I wonder what filter UV or ND of what depth measure would do the trick of exposing both the Sun in the back and subjects in the front properly :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):.

OK- to start, I don't want to suggest that pointing your camera at the sun
can't damage it. But I will say that based on my own experience it isn't likely. When I started shooting with tube cameras in the 70's,
it was a guaranteed way to fry your camera. But a lot has changed with camera engineering.

I have done well over 50 time lapses of clouds/sun, sunsets,
etc. with the camera (HVX) pointing directly at the sun. Naturally the ND
filter was on and the lens was somewhat stopped down. So far, there has
been no adverse effect on the CCD's. But remember - try at your own risk.
The Panasonic manual advises against it.

I suspect HVX owners would not want to try this while doing the frame rate hack,
with the CCD's exposed to more light than possible without the hack.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Again I really mean Shooting Sun directly in high noon. Also, in the region where I live, Sun really shines. The link you gave me is so great. I'm considering to put an additional ND filter of maybe higher measure to cut the intensity of direct sunlight that would also mean cutting down light of the whole scene significantly :Drogar-Smoke(DBG): ...
