Shooting Sqeezed mode

Hey guys. What is the work flow for shooting 16:9 squeeze bringing into post and spitting it out unsqueezed. Can that be done? When I shoot on super 16 I can tell the lab to give me video dalies cropped for super 16. Is this the same thing, or am I getting cought up in the electronics stuff? Any help would be great.

Thanks

Steve

Re: Shooting Sqeezed mode

Well here is what I do, if someone has a better suggestion let me know (I'm using FCP)
1. Shoot in squeeze mode.
2. Log and capture your footage, make sure to let your Editing program know that the footage is in anamorphic mode. (There is a setting in FCP that does this)
3. Edit away.
4. When you are done and want to export it you have a couple of options:
-If you don't want it to be squeezed you need to put your final sequence into a 4:3 timeline. This will make the footage 4:3 and give you the black bars on the top and the bottom. and it will be unsqueezed.
-Print to tape from your original sequence. The footage will be squeezed, but if you have a monitor that can display 16:9 then it will display it correctly.

It is my understanding that DV is a set standard that has a resolution of 720x480. Squeeze mode streches the image to give it the anamorphic feel, while the ana adapter takes the 16:9 image and fills the 720x480 frame with it, giving you a higher resolution image. In either case your image is still 720x480. Telling you editing system that it is 16:9 "corrects" the display of that footage so that everything doesn't look so tall and skinny.

Hope this helps.
