Shooting on a public beach

Hello, I will soon be directing a music video that we have planned to be shot on a beach.(im a student filmmaker)

There will be dancing involved in this and around 20 or so teens. Has any had any previous experience with this?

Also, would we be allowed to film at a beach with so many people?

Thanks,

Justin

Public beach and that many people, I'd suggest you look into what permits you may be required, even if it's a student project.

On the technical side. Beaches are pretty 'bright' places, with most people squinting for most of the day. If the sun comes out... even more bright... but even with overcast, it is pretty bright.

For me best times for beaches are early morning 7-8, or 1-2 hours before sunset. Local 'best' times may vary because of you positional latitude...

Sand is also an issue for beach shooting, but now that digital systems are more frequent, one can avoid getting sand into the mechanism at film changes. Howeer, lenses can get grit and if you change lenses, if your camera has that feature, sand/dust can settle on the sensor array.
