Shooting Macro With Your Adapter

Does anyone have experience shooting with macro setups on their 35mm adapter? Care to share your experiences?

We shot with our Letus EX + HVX with a Vivitar 90mm Macro. We tried it with, and without, a 2X teleconverter. The results were amazing. We got right into an eye ball (like the opening image of Blade Runner). And with the teleconverter attached, we got into the human iris - to the point where you could clearly see the reflection of the camera, operator and bits of the set.

It all looked very film like. No visible flaws at all. We later watched it on a large 60", top of the line, plasma set and it looked perfect.

So if you need to shoot macro, you really shouldn't have a problem. Of course I can only speak for our set up (Letus EX + HVX) but I imagine other adapters and cameras are reasonably comparable for a basic shot.

One of things we suggest for folks looking to do extreme macro videography is to remove our 72mm flip, or 72mm non-flip achromat and use it alone on the video camera. You can achieve crazy shallow DOF and get in extremely tight with this setup...no adapter required :-)

We just did some product shots with our digital SLR using the Cinevate non-flip achromat affixed using a 55-72 step up ring....very nice results. Our 72mm non-flip achromat is, to my knowledge, the most powerful achromat (approx. +9) available anywhere.

It works quite alright. Ive been happy with results. See some pictures here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=125800

In the out of focus areas there might be some ground glass visible, but its not that noticable at all.

You can do it very easily with non-macro lenses. Easiest and cheapest way to do it with normal lenses is to just turn the lens wrong way into the adapter. Do a search in ebay for reverse mount or reverse adapter.
