Shooting low budget in the desert, at night!

Other than praying for a clear sky and full moon, is there any way to use my few lights without resorting to an expensive generator?

Is there any way to hook them up to a car battery or possibly portable batteries that have wall outlets built onto them (hard to explain).

You could go to radio shack and get a Converter that plugs into your cigarette lighter and has standard "wall outlets" on them. But what types of lights are you using? Some draw much more power than others.
