Shooting in Winter Snow

I am wondering how the DVX will do in snow conditions. Primarily the viewfinder in bright conditions, the side monitor and tweaking the exposure. I am shooting at a Ski hill this winter and want to make sure this is the right camera for the job.

I can't forsee any problems with this camera and snow. What with so much control over the image:

Shutter Speed's, ND's and the IRIS. There is always polorized filters as well...

Re: Shooting in Winter Snow

I haven't shot in winter conditions but definitely get an extra ND filter or two for the front of the lens. Contrast problems must be brutal when shooting on snow. Also, you'll need to keep your batteries as warm as possible. Cold batteries have a very short run time. And then some type of foul weather case for the camera may be needed if snow is flying/falling.

Not to mention a cover that can work double time as an insulator. Condensation can freeze and cause major problems.

Re: Shooting in Winter Snow

Thanks alot guys. My concern is using the viewfinder in very bright conditions. I am getting my camera next week to test before the snow flies.
Are any of you using battery belts for power?

Re: Shooting in Winter Snow

I just returned from shooting a hunting video in Central Montana in 10 degree weather with the wind chill bringing it down to -20. We froze our butts off, but my two DVX100's worked flawlessly. I did have an extra set of batteries for each (and spare 9V for the wireless mics).
There was no problem with bright snow glare. I did have to turn the ND filters on for a few shots.
Just make sure the cameras adjust to the weather so there is no fogging.
