Shooting in the rain.

Hi all.

I am scheduled to shoot this sunday morning and the forecast is calling for possible rain. I would prefer not to reschedule since we have done that once already. The scenes that we are shooting may actually work well with rain, (since the scenes are dark and depressing.)

Can anyone offer me any feedback as to what to expect from shooting in the rain. Audio is not a problem as these scenes contain no speaking parts.

What is the best way to protect my gear?
What other issues may I (as a rookie) not be thinking about regarding shooting in the rain?

Many thanks!

Re: Shooting in the rain.

For your camera a rain slicker works great. But since your shoot is this weekend you can definitly get by with plastic bags (clear so you can see your lcd) and tape. That's worked for me in a pinch. Good Luck with the shoot.

Another thing to consider in shooting in the rain is the humidity factor. There is no way to predict what you will run into, but be aware that you could run into humidity that could shut down the camera with moisture on the heads. Check your footage carefully as you go and good luck.

Re: Shooting in the rain.

The plastic bags definitely works in a crunch situation. Another trick we used on a shoot in the rain was using a box to shelter the lens, then zooming in so that the box edges don't show up in the image. This is in case of a swirling rain which can spray water into the lens area.
