Shooting in Germany

I will be filming in Germany for 2 weeks in April. Is there anyone with experience filming in Germany or more specifically, Dusseldorf and Berlin that can give me a heads up on things there. We are a two man operation. We can strip the camera to the barest essentials. Will I require a permit to film in a high traffic area? How strict are they. Is the permit process expensive or difficult? Any advice you can provide with regards to Germany as a whole will be appreciated.

You will need a permit and yes it will cost you. Theres not much indie market compared to NYC. I have a close dp friend in Dusseldorf. You can pm me and I can connect you and he can walk you through it, or link you with a German producer.

I'm surprised they'd require permits for a small documentary shoot. Anyone have knowledge about Ukraine?

I've worked in Northern Germany on a small doc. No official problems at all, but certain members of the public were a lot less keen to be on camera than I was used to. I had a few conflicts that I never have had in the US.
