shooting in a cemetary?

Hey guys,

I found this thread funny, considering that I have also been racking my brain about how to film part of a short in a privately owned cemetary at dusk. I'm afraid that if I approach the owners, they will say no. Then, if I go behind their backs and film anyway, I could get in a lot more trouble than if I just shot there without asking.

I've shot in the same cemetary before in the day and had no problem, but it was just with my camera, tripod, and a few "actors." This time around, however, I will have a jib, dolly, tracks, lights, actors, cars, etc. -- not exactly a low profile production. (I've already accepted the fact that I can't dig a 5 foot hole in the ground!)

So, does anyone have any suggestions/experience they'd like to share?

Also, I need to film a scene in a video store. Anyone ever been able to do this?

Thanks,

Mike

is the video store locally owned or a 'Blockbuster'?

local video stores would be a lot easier to film in, but also kinda depends on where you live, and the people who own the store.

Best of luck. As for a blockbuster...no way jose.

arhartman: Yeah the video stores we're looking at are locally owned. There's no chance in hell Blockbuster would let us film there. I'm not really sure how to pitch it to the owner, though, to make it sound appealing; offer to pay him whatever it would cost to run the store per hour? Store exposure? Haha.

Thanks,

Mike

pretty much, offer a credit, and small filming fee.

Be excited about the project, and try to get across the importance of having that scene in that location. He needs to be put into a position of feeling important, because don't we all like that feeling. And he also needs to feel like he is really helping, because everyone wants to help in the creation of a movie.

an indie-owned video store is probably one of the best places to approach with a filming question. Movie related I suppose.

cheers.
