shooting for subtitles, foreign language

The subtitles will be an integral part of my documentary premise. The film will be an English language documentary but I will be interviewing foreigners extensively for a mostly American audience and even for those foreigners that are English-speaking, the American audience might need some "helper" subtitles for full comprehension.

I plan to compose these shoots specifically with dark areas at the bottom of the screen and the subject wearing dark clothes but beyond that, any ideas about the advantages of 60i or 30p or 24p for insertion of subtitles or even cropping to 16:9? I'd like to shoot 24p due only to the outside chance that someone [other than me] would find reason to pay for a celluloid transfer and print.

I'm not locked into any hardware or software yet but am leaning toward the DVX100a and FCP and will be forced to purchase at least production-related gear (rather than rent) because of a long shooting schedule caused by a necessarily random nature of the shoot itself.

Thanks in advance
Moe

[I'll cross-post this in the Cinematography forum because the query diffuses well beyond FCP.]

Don't worry about shooting for subtitles. Shoot for the best look of the picture! If you're wanting to transfer to film, talk to the lab that might be doing the transfer and ask them what the best frame rate would be (among other things). (They are going to tell you 24fps, but best to find out what other factors are involved in shooting video to film transfer.)

Good luck!
