I have an alley way shoot today that needs to be shot Day For Night.

ANy Tips on Post production color grading and/or lighting for the actual shoot?

Thanks!

Avoid the sky in your compositions as much as possible. If not, try a circular polarizer if you have one. Use any available Sunlight as your key when possible. Expose for detail in highlights. Block shots so background is at least one stop (if not more) darker than subject. Choke up on the bat. Hit the ball. Run to first. That's how the game is played.

Thanks!

3200K WB
Two stops under proper exposure and ND when sunlight was in shot.

Avoided sky shots.

WIll post stills soon!

Thanks!

~2pm

1/8 ND F9.6 shutter off
DVX100 (non a/b)

The still looks good, seems there could be some more exposure on her, though hard to judge from this one still, based on purpose.

Personally I wouldnt shoot it shutter off, its 1/50, the asthetic of 1/48 seems better to me. I know its a small difference. Also fstop I would try to get around f4-6 by using the 1/64 ND, if thats too much I would attach an ND to the lense. Just thoughts.

Watch out for distinctly "daylight" things - lamp posts that are off, birds flying around, etc. - keep them out of frame. The tech suggestions have been hit on, but any of these things in your frame and your cover is blown.

And watch your shadows. Day shadows and night shadows are different.

Day is almost always from a point source; single, fairly sharp shadows.

Night...depending on the setting, could be multiple shadows, soft shadows, sharp shadows...

Just ask yourself where is the light coming from and how would it affect things.
