Shooting crowds

Not sure if this is the correct part of the forum to ask, but i know in filming each person shown on camera has to have a release. But what if you are shooting a crowd seen such as a local football game and for example two actors walking the track around the field during the game and the crowd area is not so much in focus, would I still need releases from people that are not so noticable? also what about the players.. say I show the game.. you obviously cannot see the faces of the players due to the helmets, ect, but would they be able to say wait no thats me im number 23.... how would something like that need handled?

Thanks
Terry

I've seen at concerts a sign affixed to all the entrances (Crossroads Guitar Fest). It says by entering your granting the rights to use it.

Don't count on a sign like that saving your skin. People who are blind, can't read, don't speak the language, are underage, etc. still have rights.

As to the OP's question, if the faces are recognizable, then you need releases. If your DP can shoot with a shallow enough depth of focus so that the faces are too blurred to be recognizable, then you're probably safe.
