shooting at a club

Im shooting an upcoming breakdance anniversary party thingy. I wont have any control on the lights been used there, i know there will be strong red and green lights on stage...what setting should i use to still make the footage look decent?

if the lights are colored, use the preset for indoor white balance. yes, its going to look either red and green, but if you white balance to either of those colors its going to throw everything else way out of whack. You could use a litepanel or other on camera light to defeat some of the color on the dancefloor, but you will be blinding the people who are in front of the lens.

thanks so if i preset for indoor white bal- i should be good?

as far as i'm concerned, yes. You could white balance through 1/4 cto to cool it down a little if it seems to warm in there, but i would do that in a controlled tungsten envronment.

sorry...u lost me at at 1/4 cto...can u elaborate?

CTO = color temperature orange

it's a common gel to put on lights (or to cheat a white balance with). You wb on CTO to cool off a shot and wb on CTB (color temp. blue) to warm it up.

so...i should purchase orange gels? or did he mean i should white balance on something that is orange?

i should probably google color temperature to read up on it and get more knowledge!

thanks for ur help guys! keep in the info coming!

if you go to a lighting supply place, they usually have these free swatch books of available gels, pocket size. You can use them to cheat a wb.

I don't think you should bother gelling the lights in the club.
