Shooting a Talent show (concert style)

What is the best way to record audio at what is going to be a talent showcase I am shooting next month? I am not sure if there is going to be an actual sound guy there but I know there will be a DJ. Do I just set up my own mic's and run them straight to the camera or through a mixer first then to the camera; Run a cable from the output of the DJ or sound guy if they have one? Do I bring the audio into the camera on MIC or Line level?

Hmmm.... Interesting. Need to know more. Describe the venue and describe the acts. Without a soundguy and a board to plug into this could be a nightmare to do well.

Well the showcase will feature Rappers and Singers and perhaps some groups and maybe a live band. I am not sure about the band but I do know they have 14 acts scheduled to perform. The venue will be held in an old movie theater that is now used for other types of events. I am waiting to hear from one of the event's organizers to see if there will be a sound person with a mixing board or if it is going to be just a DJ pressing play on a CD player that has the instrumental they are singing or rapping over.
