Shooting a sports woman on the beach

I was wondering what is the focal lenght used in this video ?

To shoot a sport woman, would it be better to use 50mm or 85mm ?
Some say it is good to use 24mm wide angle because the background looks small compare to her. But maybe her frame would appear distorted,...

Any advices about the cinematography to use to shoot this particular scene in an interesting way?

To work out the focal length you need to know the field of view and the size of the sensor. You can guess; I'll go with 35mm on a full frame or 24mm on a S35 or 8mm on 2/3rd inch.

I do agree with David though, not a flattering angle. My advice; go look at some weightlifting/fitness magazines and study the photography.

First of all: what's a "sport woman?"

Second: Meryl Streep has really been hitting the gym!

For any kind of portraiture, longer lenses reduce the chance of distortion. The rule of thumb for 35mm photography has long been an 85mm lens for photographing people, if you don't want their bodies to become foreshortened and they faces to be distorted close-up.

hehe meryl streep.
Yes i do believe its not a flattering shot for her. It would be better with 50mm or 85mm lens.
Thanks for the comments everybody,
have a great day,

Do you have a camera and some lenses?

Go down to the beach and shoot a test.

Shooting is an "eye thing"..not a bunch of absolute rules that work for everything.

Imagine what you want to see then use the "tools" to achieve it.
