Shooting a hotel room, simulating different times of day

Hello

we are preparing a short movie, which will be shot in a hotel room, 2nd floor. Outside is a balcony, ca. 3m x 1m
My idea: we built a kind of tent outside at the balcony to get rid of the sunlight. The light will be a HMI (1K? 2K?) which shines through the window/glass door.
On the window/door some diffusion foil (1/2? 1/4?) the get a bright surface. To simulate the times of day i plan to move the light... i'm asking myself if this could work...of course we will make some tests... any suggestions? What about the heat of the HMI, could get hotter than a pizza oven... :-/

Never been a big shot with an HMI before so cant comment on that, but changing the color (temperature) of the light too would help sell the time of day (warm for sunrise, blue for night, etc). Can do the coloring in post/grading. Sorry if that was obvious to you already.

Yes, changing the color temperature is also part of the plan. I have some 800W tungsten light, but i think a daylight HMI will fit better. I like to do as much as possible in cam on the set, so i will use some filters and the fine tuning will be in post.
