Hey all,
I was hired out to be the shooter for the Seattle leg of a tour by Michael Jr, a christian comedian.

Basically i'm staying the weekend with these guys and just shooting sets and random banter or improv with him, and I'm looking for some pointers. I'm assembling the gear I think i'll need, tell me if you'd add to it, and any general advice as I haven't shot a doc before. Oh, and the sweet part is I'm only the shooter, I don't have to edit this one :0) Thanks! Here's what I'm bringing so far:
Sony FX1 w/ lots of batteries (they are supplying tapes)
Litepanels Mini
Miller DS-10 tripod
Steadystick
KATA MC-61 case
They have a wireless system
Beachtek xlr adapter
shotgun mic (probably a smaller one as I shouldn't need it for much)

You may want to consider bringing a second camera. Even a cheap Dv camera to put shoot a wide shot, or side shot during performances. Obviously it will not match, so you could make it B&W, and grainy, or something of the like. Trust me, it will save your butt at some point.

Thanks. I'm actually "B" camera for the shoot, they are bringing a guy who also uses an FX1, so the footage should match up nicely. Just needed a local boy for the Seattle leg of this tour. Thanks again for the advice tho

set up a shot gun on a mic stand over the crowd. With the wireless you'll hear him fine but you don't want the video to sound like no one in the audience enjoyed him.

There's also going to be a lot of run-and-gun doing interviews with audience members and capturing him outside the venues being funny on the streets... Thanks for the tips guys!
