I was wondering if anyone has some recomendations on shooting live show, any particular settings, that you feel enhance your shoot under concert lights.
Its a rock show with a fairly ammount of show lights on a theater.
ive shot some shows in 24pa, with nice results, forget about any crowd shots unless the light hits them though.Forget a manual white balance with multiple colored lights, just go with a preset, i think 3200k should work, but see what looks better in your viewfinder.
Here is a question that I have a bit of experience with! I am one of the privileged few to have the huge honor of shooting concerts at the world renowned Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado. Obviously I love my job!
We always use the preset 32K white balance after dark. With colored tungsten lighting, this just makes sense. You will want the colors to be as close as they can be to what you see with the naked eye. We have found that the 32K preset gives us the best results and the most consistency.
The lighting varies wildly from one show to the next, and it is constantly changing on any given night. We always use all manual settings. One second the stage will be dark, then the next second the stage will be intensely bright, so we constantly ride the iris. Yeah, it can be tough, but it's a must. The zebra patterns are set at 95 and we use them to iris accordingly. Shutter speeds tend to stay at the default settings except for special effects.
