Shooting a band...

I am shooting a band tomorrow night. THe club is small and dark, but has stage lighting. I've never shot a band before - and I just purchased th DVX last week - so I'm still learning about what a great camera it is.

In lieu of working with a new camera, but I was going to ask you all for some advice on the following.

I was going to do handheld. Maybe considering renting a glidecam.

Should I rent a glidecam?

Should I shoot in 24P or not? Is this too hard to pull of moving around a lot?

If I shoot 24P, What shutter speed should I use? Something faster i would assume???

Shoot I put a light on top? A small soft box? Would that be overkill?

Any special settings on the DVX that work best for this type of shoot?

What can/should I do to make this shoot a success - both with the camera, and the extras - glidecame, extra light, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Am I missing anything??

BTW - I did a search 'shooting bands' etc and did not find anything to address these issues.

Thanks to all.

Re: Shooting a band...

as far as the stabilizer (glidecam) , i wouldnt rent any type of stabilizer device unless you know what your doing with it.. youd only end up with wobbly and sea sick footage. it wouldnt be jerky .. but it would be wobbly.. a stabilizer isnt somthing you just put the camera on, and it automatically makes it smooth and perfect..it takes alot of practise and skill to operate one .

shoot 24p if you want the 24p look, otherwise shooting 30p will give you a cleaner 60i timeline to work with, and 60i will give you better light sensitivity.

if the stage is lit well , your light on the cam would probably be annoying and not needed. if its dimly lit, then your light would help, but still likely be annoying :P.

then , i would be sure to go there befopre hand sometime when the stage is lit, and test it out with the setup you want to use to be sure it will work ok to produce the results you want.

good luck ;)
