Shooting 29.97 with 1/50 or 1/48 shutter

I have been shooting for TV lately and the producers absolutely insist on shooting in 29.97, as they hate the hassle of converting 23.976 to 29.97 in post(TV final deliveries are always 29.97). On my part, i strongly dislike the 29.97 1/60 shutter speed effect - the reduction of motion blur turns everything video-ish. However im aware this is mainly due to shutter speed.

As anyone shot 29.97 with 1/50 shutter speed? In that way i could keep the motion blur of 23.976 but deliver in 29.97. Its a general rule that shutter speed should be double the frame rate, but technically since 1/50 shutter speed is faster then 29.97 in terms of exposure - i could get away with it. As anyone tried?

I've done it. I have to be careful because I shoot a lot of green screen with Kinos lighting the screen and at 1/48th shutter at 23.98 fps, it looks fine in the monitor but if you scan through the recorded footage, you can see flicker and the slow rolling bars so I always default now to leaving the frame rate at 23.98, because that is what my client specs, but with the 1/60th shutter to eliminate the rolling bars. I've also shot 29.97 with 1/50th shutter with the 5D MKIII in the UK, it's the only way to mitigate the flicker when shooting over there if you are shooting NTSC. Really frame rate and the shutter speed you shoot at are your choice and only affect aesthetics. Just watch out for that flickering with discharge lamps, you can get it if you are at 1/48th or 1/50th in NTSC countries. This means most street lights, businesses lit by fluorescent tubes, Kinos, etc. Mercury Vapor in warehouses, that kind of stuff.
