Shoot35

I am about to order 1.100.00 in equipment from www.shoot35.com but when I put my order in to pay it would not go thru to the bank they deal with. I contacted the company and they also offer bank transfer but its in United Kingdom. Has anyone ever dealt with this company? I asked them do they have pay pal and they said no. I don't want to get beat out of money so that's why I'm coming to this forum. Thanks any insight would be great.

If it is shoot35 that you have linked to, that is Wayne Kinney, and I can vouch for him. He's donated prizes to our fests in the past, and has been a sponsor here for a long time.

Yes the email I got was from Wayne Kinney. I have never dealt with this company so don't know who is affiliated with the company.

If it helps, there is a system in the UK for keeping track of Limited Companies - and the results for shoot35 look fine. It does not show the company as dissolved or liquidated, and their annual returns are up to date. Wayne's personal address is also on-line as a Company Director. This is something dodgy firms do their best to not do. I've only heard good things about them.

International on-line payments are never automatically smooth - a company in German I deal with regularly got an order from me last week which refused to go through with the credit card. Credit card company said not them, the German company said not them. So I had to use an international transfer, and cost me an extra processing fee!

Quite a few UK retailers now have an extra stage of payment protection where a security number, printed on the back of a credit card needs to be entered - maybe this isn't on your card (if you tried to use one). when I have ordered from the states, I note they never ask for this.

Hi Guys,

This is Wayne from shoot35, we have been around for 7 years now, old skool folks will know us best for the SGpro and SGblade 35mm adapters. Our current main products being the CINEbox and CINEfocus. We are also a DVXuser, REDuser and Cinema5D sponsor

Alot of our history can be found right here on DVXuser, check out my previous posts :)

99.9% of any failed card transactions are due to the card issuer declining the transaction, rather then anything from our end. Because all of our card payments are processed by HSBC, we have limited control over failed payments so offer Bank Transfer as payment method.

I would like to think anyone wanting to purchase from us can do so with 100% confidence.

I have had to deal with 'bank transfers' from the US to 'foreign' sellers, mostly in Germany. Apparently in Germany (don't know if this is the same of the UK...) 'bank transfers' are either 'free' or only have a small service fee paid by the 'sender'. Here in the US 'bank transfers' often are expensive, like about $35 US for my bank, and when I have tried to send money to a bank account via Western Union, I was quoted some Federal regulations which prevent me, living in California (and apparently any US/Mexico border state) to transfer money directly to a bank account. (fee for Western Union for 'under $100' was something like $10 or $15 which was less than the bank transfer...).

On the other hand Pay Pal, only charges a $3-4 fee for outright 'send money', but requires the parties be "Pay Pal" members...

Not being a shill for Pay Pal... but just noting for US customers it may be far 'cheaper' than a 'bank transfer'. Customers can deal with how the Pay Pal account is setup and paid for, and not deal with an transfer bank rejecting credit cards.

The only experience I've had with that sort of issue, was when I signed up for a 'Movie Storm' account and the $8 (or so) per month fee was handled via credit card and their UK service. Apparently they found that service to be so 'unreliable' that they switched over to Pay Pal... I did experience some wyrdness as well, in that the bank's method of find out if the card was 'good' was by using the card number for a $1 'test' then backing out the $1 , which apparently was a 'flagable ' event, and I was called about the legitimacy of the transaction.

Thanks Wayne, I'm just doing my home work. I will try and do the card again . I talked to the bank and they cleared up some things . Thanks you all for your input. :))

Hi Guys,

From a buyers point of view I can understand PayPal as being attractive, but as so many merchants know, they are a HUGE nightmare to deal with, as a seller anything bigger than a very small business. I have read countless threads from unhappy merchants for so many reasons, suffice to say they wanted to keep £50,000 of our cashflow reserved in the PayPal account which they classed as reservation to reduce any 'risk' to them from chargebacks. We only ever had one chargeback in 7 years, and that was a fraudulant chargeback. The decision was made a few years ago to swtich to a reputable card processing service, HSBC.

PayPal have tried this to so many merchants, there are countless threads about this. It is extremely upsetting when a small business like us have taken so much effort and pride in conducting ourselves to running a genuine business model and have it kicked in your face by a big company such as PayPal.

Suffice to say, we would NEVER go near PayPal again, sorry.

I can vouch for shoot35 as well... and have been very happy with the check out part as well as the possibility to buy VAT free. That makes a huge difference to an EU buyer... to be honest I seldom buy from anyone who is not registered for VAT anymore.
+1 to the comment about paypal. It's great when dealing with a private person, but business to business it's only good when you deal from Ebay... a normal, perfectly working credible webshop should offer credit card transactions like Shoot35 does.

Keep up the good work!
