I have played with the crop function (I'm sorry I'm getting the name wrong) to zoom in and re-frame shots in post... love the capability!!! so much power that can "save" you later... so i wondered... if I was going to shoot a project for SD 480 lines and I recorded 720 lines instead... then I would have an extra 1/4 frame that I could crop to zoom in (centered zoom) by a factor of 1.5 making my optical zoom freaking long... And since the HVX chip is made for 720, this long reach wouldn't be achieved by meant of a "digital zoom"... right? Also, there would be an extra 1/2 a frame in any direction to re-crop the shot... When rendering to 480 the shots that were not cropped in any way would remain the same and be downconverted in resolution (size), so if you don't want to change it just leave it.
So if I didn't mess up above, my questions are:
Would there be quality loss in the downconversion? it so, it would me almost negligent though...
How can I set the crop tool to have a 480 frame that I can drop into a shot if I wanted to say ad the longest pan I could in post?
