Shoe mount issue with Letus V1 rods and V2 Support

Hello All,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a problem. I have the V1 Rods and camera support system and the V2 Adaptor support. When I assemble all the parts and have the supports as high as they go sections of the supports still hang below the rods and prevent the tripod shoe from sliding onto the tripod. I have a Manfrotto 516 which is pretty standard and have used it with a P+S mini 35 system before with no issues. Has anyone ever dealt with this issue before? does anyone have a solution other than buying the V2 shoe piece? All I can think of is to have a local metal shop fabricate a shim for me.

Hi,

Try flipping the rods clamp on the Letus Support around the other way (so that the blue thumbscrews are above the rods), this should give you clearance.
 
Hey, I tried that and it works.. Thanks.. now the logo on the front is upside down :( I think if I don't get a direct solution from Letus, I'm still going to have the Shim custom machined. I don't like the way the whole rig sits up so high, it gives me the impression of more of an arm that can introduce wobbling. But thanks again for the suggestion
 
Hm, yea, the V1 system wasn't one of Letus' better designs. The V2 rod system is significantly better.
 
Aaron at Letus suggested that a just drop the whole rig down and trim off the excess that hangs down from the posts. Since I'll probably be using this setup for a while I think I'm going to take the Dremel tool to them tonight. I'll repost images of my Franken-rails when I get them all set up again.

So I sawed off the descending posts on the camera support with my Dremel® tool and it works like a charm. I figure when I step up to teh Red I'll be able to afford some new rails. Here is an image of the resulting Hackinrods:
