Shockmounts vs standard mic holder

Having read through these forums I am about to order an AT4073AK shotgun mic. B&H do a package that includes a shockmount. I have read that the quality of these is low.

However, how effective are shockmounts compared to using the mic-holder that came with my new DVX102ae?

Cheers, Bifter

Re: Shockmounts vs standard mic holder

great question...I've been wondering that myself. I have been using the holder that came with my ME66, but havent noticed how a shockmount could imrove anything.

Re: Shockmounts vs standard mic holder

the holder which come with the camera doesnt do any dissent job , for better isolation you sertanly need good shock protectiomn which not only fdo that but will rise the micriphpone from the lence motor which going to be a part of your sound
remember the same shock mount woud work on the boom when you will separate the mike from the camera
the k-tecek gps is a grate for your camera , when you would deside go firder with sound it would be exellent with Rycote seppeline
the only thing you need is camera holder for the souspention that would sit inside the original or on the hot shoe adaptor

i have the sennheiser me-66 and i tried the on camera mount and i hated it, i could hear tons of noise being carried up from the body of the camera. i got the Audio Technica at-8415

B&H has a nice package where it has better rubber bands.

also if you are buying an me-66 there is a great combo that includes the windjammer and a handheld mic holder.
