Shockmount for AT897 on boom

Hi,

I am in the market to get a shockmount for my AT897 that I can mount on a boom pole. I have come across three contenders and wondering what peoples thoughts are :

1. Audio Technica AT8415 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...143&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

2. Gitzo G11510 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...370&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

3. K-Tek SSM or K-Tek SM. Can someone tell me would I need the SM or SSM with the AT897?

I think I know everyone is going to say either KTek-SSM/SM. But just wondering how well the Gitzo or AT stand up? The K-Tek's are nearly double the price of the Gitzo/AT, but is it worth the extra money?

Thanks

Robert

I have used the AT8415 (in fact I have one I'm selling, PM me if interested), and it is a solid performer that gets the job done. It is identical to the Gitzo that I have (the reason I'm selling the AT is because my pole is Gitzo and I want everything to match because I'm going to be fashionable).

They are identical in operation and both do a pretty good job, on average resulting in a 10-18db control effect.

The K-Teks normally result in a -20-24db (my unofficial findings) saving grace. They are well worth the money if you are going to be using an inexperienced operator, but for practical purposes and general use with the AT897 I would say you should be fine with either of the other ones. If you were getting a mic that requires better sound reinforcement and stabilization I would recommend that K-Tek, but for AT897 it is a nice mic, not too hot, and should be fine with either of the other units.

Sometimes the answer you get is not what you expect. I am not saying that the audio technica or the gitzo are better than the K-teks, they are not, but for your need the AT or the K-Tek will be more than adequate and exceed your expectations.

I have the audio technica. It's inexpensive, and works fine. when the bands get old you can replace them with rubberbands. However, when working outside sometimes I wish I had a blimp.

Thanks guys for your help :)

If I was to go the K-Tek route which one would be best most suited for the AT897, the SSM or just the SM?
