Shimmering text in Premiere -- how to

Hello,

Could someone tell me if it is possible to create the text that you see at the 5-7 second mark of this video in Premiere Pro (most recent cc version)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmUgs-iglEg

A client wants me to create text exactly like this, but I've never done it. I think I saw a built in effect for this in FCP X when I trialed it, but I no longer have FCP.

Thanks!
Tom

It looks like a wipe.

You may be able to do that effect with a simple wipe transition really softening the transition out.

Alternatively you could use the crop effect in cc2014 and animate using the new mask feature with plenty of feathering on the mask itself.

Hope that helps.

If your still stuck I may be able to do few screen grabs from cc to show how to set it up.

Surinder.

Thanks, Surinder. I'll try to play with the wipe and maybe check out the new mask feature. I'll report back.

I'm not sure it's the best way to do it, but I think I've done it. Used linear wipe effect (changing the angle and feathering at about 400). But it's actually 2 wipes, so I did a wipe on one track set to 50% opacity and then layered the text onto the track above, set to about 50% transparency, and then copy and pasted the wipe effect onto that clip.

There's a great plugin that can add that subtle shimmer to the soft wipe, called CycoreFX Light Sweep. It's an After Effects plugin, but up until CC2014 would work just fine in premiere, you just had to copy the plug in directory over. It no longer works natively though, but it would be a simple thing to make your title a dynamicly linked AE project and use the effect there.

Looks like you solved your problem, but just to chime in......

This looks VERY similar to the "slow fade on" text effect in After Effects. Close enough to please the client I'm sure.

If you have CC and felt like stepping out of Premiere.

Thanks. I will experiment with it when I get some time.
