howdy.
just came across this dandy little toy.
its a law enforcement style .45 1911 airsoft pistol with a 12 round clip with full blowback and shell ejection.
you'd be hard pressed to be able to tell the difference between this gun and the real thing, even in slo-mo (actually more so in slo-mo).

you can see it here and wathc a vid while you're at it.

Yes those are cool, I have considered purchasing these shell ejecting guns for my prop gun needs as they are cheaper and easier to purchase than model guns or blank guns. That same company produces a shell ejecting glock (Video), CZ 75 (video), and the lever-action shotgun from terminator 2; Another company produces a shell ejecting pump action shotgun.(Video)

I believe there are some shell ejecting m4s, AKs, SKS, M1, and a Karabiner 98k out on the market but they vary in quality and realism.

i just bought one of the glocks yesterday.
got it used for 80 bucks.
it looks great firing as well as on close ups as it's a fully licensed version so all the markings are correct
the glock is a 45 cal so it only holds 6 shells but it's plenty for most scenes.
you hafta be careful and watch where the shells go as there 4 bucks a piece to replace.
thanks

theres a local airsoft forum with a for sale section, i've scored a buncha stuff off there as well as getting costumed extras with there own guns and gear.
so i'm shooting a vamp flik in late sept in and around sac, i could always use more crew.
check out the promo trailer i shot last year.

Doesn't surprise me at all! I was looking around at the crew calls on craigslist for films up in Sacramento trying to get a feel of the filmmaking community, they're all horror/zombie/war stuff. I guess that's the thing to do there! However this is my final year of college and I'm cramming a ton of classes into these final two semesters, so I'm taking a break from doing PA work on films - otherwise I would totally love to help out.

Anyways, I did some reading on the shell ejecting glock...I hear it only uses a special gas called HFC134a that is nigh impossible to find in the US??? And you have to get a special adapter or upgrade to use green gas???

pa's i don't need no stinking pa's, i need cameramen, sound guys, art department, gaffers...
it's funny, theres always some kinda horror thing going on in this town but until recently it's been pretty vampire free. now i think theres 3 vamp fliks being shot here. one of thems a comedy b-movie spoof and i havent heard much about the other one except that they tried to poach some of my actors.
as far as the glock goes, it runs fine on green gas, ran a coupla clips through it yesterday.
it's fun.
even if you don't have time to work on the flik, you should come out just for fun. we've got a big stunt team from the bay area and we'll be doing lotsa martial arts as well as high falls and even a fire gag. and yes we have professional trained stunt men for this, for those who are about to tell me that i need such things.

Ack, my bad. I've done so much crew work where I have so many responsibilities, but those crazy little indie film sets I get gigs on where any duty short of Directing Writing or Producing is just referred to broadly as PA work....that's how it's been for me these past 4 years, so for me when I say PA work I mean basically any kind of crew work, lol. Not to worry, I have more than just PA experience - boom operator, cameraman, script supervisor, editor. Also, as of right now I'm sort of the defacto armorer for this group of filmmakers I went to community college with, which is where my interest in prop guns comes from.

You know what, if I have the time I might come out to see the filming - I mean, I'm going to Sacramento for school anyways, I might as well get to know the local filmmaking community. Also, I've always wanted to see a stunt crew in action, it's always been a source of fascination for me, my great-uncle is a stunt driver in socal.

Thought I'd mention a few brief things. Green gas will probably work OK, but will shorten the lifespan of the gun.

BTW, while this is great for effects reasons, I wouldn't suggest using it in slomo. The slide bounces a little too much on the return. The cycle speed of the slide is also noticeably slower, though in an action scene at regular speed I doubt anyone would notice. Green gas will cause a faster cycle, as another note.

Also, if you want to use HFC 134a, you can buy a duster adapter from Airsoft Innovations. PC duster, the stuff used to clean dust off computers, is in fact HFC 134a. You just need to also add silicone to it every few refils, which is included with the adapter.

You can also use propane instead of green gas, and it is much cheaper. Likewise, you'll have to add silicone.

There's a kit with both a propane and duster adapter - as well as a bottle of the silicone oil you need to add. It's quite simple to use, really, and will save you a large amount of money in the long run if you plan to buy multiple guns, etc.
