shattered glass effect?

that one seems to be practical.

Set up your HVX to record 60p get a greenscreen, break glass and drop the glass infront of the camrera into a bin.

could this work?

I'd say it is rotating 3d models with raytraced glass material applied and it also appears to have a mix of tiny particles set to flash and decay rapidly to make them look like tiny glass "dust." It looks composited in front of the frame with a lens blur in after effects or the comparison filter in motion or shake.

If I'd have to guess how it was made, I'd guess either maya, houdini, 3dsmax, and the list goes on. You could make something like this for free using an open source program, such as Blender.

It probably could be done on set, but this case looks like a composite.

yeah....greenscreen would be hard because the glass is transparent and that can easily make keying very difficult. My guess was a 3d program but just wanted to check.

It's not that difficult to composite images that are shot on a solid black background.
I think this was shot on a black background and composited using a transfer mode or Knoll's unmult plug-in.
