Shatter

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
I have a shot where the camera is hanging out the
Car window filming the mirror..

I want the glass to explode (Shatter) and have the inside of the mirror shown.

Now, I've stabilized the shot, and I have a background which is linked to the shot so it sticks with it.

My problem is keeping the shatter effect in track with the mirror.. I can't seem to link it, track it to the mirror so it looks realistic.

If anyone knows how to do this I'd love to hear what you've come up with. I'm in AE CS3.

Thanks,
Rob

If you have a background which is tracked, why can't you use the same tracking data on your shatter effect? It might be easiest to apply the data to a null object and then parent the different layers which need to move to that null object.

I use mocha for after effects. It came with cs5. Not sure about cs3. I also use a plugin called mocha import- just a 5 dollar donation to the guy. You could pay nothing but I always give at least some cash for people's work. It's great. Really good for keeping things where you want them. If things rotate it gets a little trickier.

Here's a link to mocha import...

Or you can look through ae tuts to see if there's anything there...

Hope this helps.

Also, Action Essentials has some great add ons if you're ever looking and some great tutorials on his site....

If not you can use motion tracker in after effects linking it to a null object. But sometimes it gets a bit wiggly and hard to have things stay where you want.
