Sharing FCP Project on budget

Hi

i am in need of building a system for sharing FCP projects. (not at same time)
WE have at the moment two editing suites loaded with esata cards and this Esata enclosers

Swapping the drives between two editing suites is pain in the butt.
Our workflow is one editor does the compiling and initial editing, second editor finishes the project the first editor started. so no simultaneous access.

our editing formats DV and DVCPRo HD

XSAN, unity...etc is out of question or our budget.

We tried NAS (DNS-323)
not fast enough

is there way to build a system where we can dump all our footages and run it form server that is fast enough for our codecs?
or different solution?

Thanks a lot

Berk

PS: we do online editing.

What about just having duplicate media on two drives?

What's your budget for shared?

You do know that you can connect one machine to the RAID, then connect both macs via Gig-E Ethernet. Then turn on SHARING...and share the drive.

The thing is, you'll need a raid fast enough for provide enough streams for BOTH machines playing back footage. So like 4-8 streams of data.

Hi Shane
thanks for reply

our budget is up to $1000
lets see if i got your suggestion

in terms of connection:

Esata Raid tower <-->Mac 01-->Gigabit Router-->Mac 02

$1000 will not get you ANY sort of shared storage solution. So the best you can do is do a good SINGLE station solution that can do 300MB/s or better...eSATA will work. And then share that with the other mac.

No router needed. Just an ethernet cable between the computers.
