Shallow DOF?

Does anyone know a way to shoot a shallow depth of field using the HVX200? I have read that using a density filter and moving the camera back from the talent will create somewhat of the effect I'm looking for. Are there any filters or other techniques that will give my shots the shallow DOF of higher quality cameras?

Thanks much!

To get extreme shallow DOF, you need a 35mm adaptor or camera that has 2/3" or larger sensor. Small HD cameras do not offer too much in the way of shallow DOF.

The best way to get shallow DOF with a small camera is to use Neutral Density filters to decrease the light input and compensate by opening up the aperture all the way (f2.8 or lower). Then you have two options to make it look more shallow: 1) frame your subject extremely close (a couple of inches away from the lens) and make sure your background is far away (20+ feet). or 2) move the camera back from the subject and zoom all the way in (your background will need to be 20+ feet from your subject).
