Can you get a fake Shallow DOF in post using FCP? i know one way to do it in photoshop but it takes forever!

After Effects 7 might be your answer it has LENS BLUR filter (just like Photoshop CS2)& its amazing how much you can get away with it the only difference being you can set key frames & for the amount of blurs & the control the areas they effect using a depth mask, i have tried it & its a relatively easy technique...

I've used a Eight-Point Garbage Matte or a four-point.
Duplicate the first clip, and set it over top of the other (make sure they're in line with one another). Then set the clip on top to overlay or screen. Next set the points for the Eight-Point Garbage Matte or a four-point around the subject. Then just add a blur filter to the bottom and that should do it. The AE or Motion program will allow you more flexibility.
