shaky clips

ugh. the biggest problem of why i cannot really be satisfied with my clips is because when filming shorts, my clips are always shaky. ois is on, i just am not that good at being smooth. i dont think a lot of people notice, but i do and i want to improve it. anybody have any tricks? its usually just me and my friends going out and having fun, usually on a mission like going into abandoned places and exploring, no scripts, and just putting it to music. but the shakiness frustrates me. any tips? THANX d00d!

Tripods make a little difference :)

But, if you're just talking about working on your handhelds...practice. Add more weight to the camera. Buy a shoulder mount or make your own SteadyTracker.

The Spiderbrace is really excellent for handheld work... I used it almost exclusively for my latest film, Smuggler's Ransom, and I love the feel it gave to the shots.

brace yourself against stationary structural objects.
learn to hold the camera against your body.
leave ois on.
zoom all you want.
practice, you'll get the hang of it.

if you want moving shots, i'd invest in a stabilization device.
i use a steady tracker.

never zoom anyway! Unless you want the "24" look.

Never zoom at all, or just handheld?

Cuz, I gotta be honest, ol' hong kong whip zooms or slow zooms on an object or dolly in zoom our (or is that vice versa) are funnnn!
