shaking effect

Hi, I am very new to AE. I have a clip in which there are two characters. Is it possible for AE to create an effect where:

1. the whole clip is shaking i.e like an earthquake.

2. only the characters shake (like with jittery vibration or something similar).

Would appreciate any help.

thanks,

-Kris

1. Transform --> edit the points with timeline. Put alittle blur (for example Directional Blur)

2. Mask around the characters (or use greenscreen), and then do like what I just said above.

Also...
Alt Click on the stop watch for the position and type:

wiggle(6,60)

This will add shake dynamically, the 6 being how many shakes and the 60 is how much to offset the position this is in pixels. Feel free to change as needed.

To keep it simple this is a constant shake and can't be keyframed without some additional expressions setup.

Be sure to turn on the motion blur for the layer and comp

hey guys, thanks a bunch.

Andrew, I looked at your tutorials and was very impressed. I will probably buy some stuff from your site soon.

thanks again,

I personally prefer to keyframe the shake myself as I get complete control over the impact of the inital shake and it settling. It can mean a bit of trial and error but its worth it for control.

If I have a composite I've made like a greenscreen, and I want to add shake, I load that composite into a new one, scale up the composite by 5% and then keyframe motion in random left right up and down movements. To get blur I use the motion blur on the layer and it will calculate it based on how far the movement. The greater the movement the more the blur. Opposite corner movement has the best effect.

Hope that helps [apologies for the ramble].

Thanks
