shakey effect

im doing a music video and for a few scenes wanted to use a shakey camera effect, when it gets really heavy.

any one know where i could buy a good one or get it free? never used FCP so im still learning the ropes

Re: shakey effect

You can try http://www.natress.com

He has an earthquake filter for FCP that works nicely depending on your needs.

Another way to do it without a plugin would be time consuming... but you can do it yourself manually in the motions tab by keyframing the rotation of your image frame back and fourth. If you're doing this in any frame other than 4:3 you'll want to "nest" your finished movie when you have your final cut, then drop a matte across your entire nested movie because changing the frame motion will affect everything in that frame (including the black bars framing the aspect ratio)

Re: shakey effect

Sorry about the typo, but yeah.

No other suggestions that I know of. If you have something specific in mind for what you're looking for, I'd try the manual approach with the keyframing. Lots of trial and error that way.

You know who's really good at post work on this site is Carrington Benz and I believe he uses FCP. He might have a suggestion for you. Shoot him an IM through the site and ask his opinion.

Re: shakey effect

If you have access to After Effects, you can set motion keyframes on your footage and apply "The Wiggler" to key random movements and throw on some motion blur... That'll shake it up.

Re: shakey effect

hmmm, I don't have AE, but maye be able to take the video to someone who does.

How practicle would it be to edit the video, put the finished video on an external harddrive and take it to someone with AE and have them do it to the shots i want in an 2 or 3 hours?

Re: shakey effect

How would you create a shake if say the talent jumps in the air and when they landed on the ground it looks like his landing was a powerful impact where everything shakes....how would that be done? I know adding a sound effect and maybe manually shaking the camera might work I guess.

Re: shakey effect

go to HARD DRIVE/LIBRARY/APPLICATION SUPPORT/FINAL CUT PRO SYSTEM SUPPORT/ and drop the filter into the plugins folder you find there. Then just start up FCP and it should show up in your effects browser.

cheers
