Shadows lightened on Output - need advice

So it seems everything I output (at least with Quicktime) the shadows get lightened alot giving my projects a grayish hue, and taking away the dramatic look I attempted :) . Is there a way to overcome that? I am using the H.264 compressor at the highest quality possible, but not sure what is going on. Thanks for any help

in your timeline settings (Video Rendering) makes sure "Maxium Bit Depth" is ticked in addition Colour Depth is set to Millions of Colours + give that a whirl, failing that try getting AE (if you have it) to do the final export (cut and paste all the clips or open prem project in AE), it tends to look after colours and black levels a whole lot better than prem

Check out your clips in the waveform monitor.

Black (shadows), Mids (Gamma) ,White (Highlights)

Maybe your shadows are not as "black" as you think they are because of poor monitoring set up or bad exposure. even.

Fix the issue with Levels or Curves (before you do any C.C /grading)

Are you working on PC? Possible that rendering to an apple codec is converting gamma to apple gamma or something along those lines causing this.

Hi,

Other than what's been said, if you haven't added "Broadcast Colors" filter to clamp Luma, which would add the behavior you're seeing, I'm not sure what would cause it.

This happened to one of my past shorts when I used H264 compression. I ended up adding more "contrast" before I exported to compensate but there has to be a better way than that.
