Shadow stop-motion

Hello everybody,

I must make a 1-minute stopmotion animation film for school, i have 2 weeks to make it, i have never done animation before, but i do know all the basics, i have a great book about stopmotion (clay and puppets) and iam intressted in it a long time.

Now i want to make a stop-motion shadow film,

A big white piece of paper, behind it some paper houses/puppets and behind that a big light. And then film the white paper.

It did not work so well, not the way i imagened it. Can someone post some links to stop-motion films that uses the same technique?

Or, can you give me some suggestions?

Thanks!

Jerry

you need a REALLY bright one point light. and you have to boost levels in post. it will work out nice.

What are you using to shoot it? You definitely will need to overexpose a bit.

I would also suggest going over to stopmotionanimation.com

I am a member there and if you ask this same question, you will get incredible answers.

Professional animators hang out there and it is hosted by Anthony Scott, animator on Gumby, Nightmare before Christmas and Corpse Bride.

For your foreground layer, don't use bond-type paper; use drafting vellum, something like Clearprint 1000H. It will pass a lot more light, and diffuse your edges less, than regular bond paper in the same setup.
