Shadow Lighting

Yo, so I am shooting a little something or another that I want to have specific lighting. In fact, I only want specific things lit...

I'm shooting a bunch of footage of a dead person, mostly close up shoots and ECUs. Anyway, I want hard lines, diags, of light on my subjects eyes, mouth, and nose. Anyone have any suggestions of how to get these shadows to be nice looking?

This sounds like a really low key lighting setup with high contrast highlites. You will need a pretty controlled environment to pull it off, but with mostly ECUs that shouldn't be to hard. Just get some black foam core to make your cutters from and use a nice focusable light source (Fresnel). To help keep the edges well delineated, keep your cutters close to the subject as they will have much sharper cutoff. If the black foam core isn't sharp enough for your taste, then try a thin piece of sheet metal (painted flat black on both sides); this will give you "razor" sharp edges to your highlites. Then just add enough key back in to get the overall look that you want.
