sgpros sharpness compared to the ultimate.

I'm maybe going through another bad case of ear lust, but from all the footage I've seen from the ultimate looks very sharp but still not as filmic as the sgpro, but my question was, if anyone has done chart comparesson between the letus ultimate and the sgpro rev 3 for resoulution.

and also by the letus loosing less light because of using a less diffused ground glass, would this have any barring on why the sgpro tends to look more filmic?

The Ultimate probably has a more optimized achromat and the fact that the ground glass isn't directly attached to the motor means that there is less vibration that may cause the distance from the ground glass to the lens to oscillate.

That said, Wayne will be coming out with a new achromat for the SGpro in October, and my results using the current SGpro Rev. 3 have been extremely sharp edge to edge. Under careful chart tests I can see room for improvement in the edges but I'm confident that the new achromat will increase the edge sharpness.

Marco, Have you been using the Rev3 with an EX-1?
If so, how far do you have to zoom in to lose vignetting?

I've owned both.

Ultimate is way sharper. Different league all together in terms of sharpness.

The SG Pro has a better Bokeh at the expense of light loss.

Take your pick.

No Lenny, just with an HVX200. Is the Ultimate really that much sharper than this:

That was with the SGpro Rev 3, Nikon 85mm AIS set to f/2.0, HVX wide open, Detail +2.

For detail +2 it looks pretty noisey. Was there more sharpness added? That's noisier than the standard regular HVX200 still.

Tim is right: Not a sharper image to be found as far as adapters go.

Tim, did you shoot the Cezar video with a HVX?
it's awesome.

I guess it depends on what your final output is. I guess the more filmic look means a little more than the sharpness. I've not seen footage from the ultimate yet that screams film like the sgpro, but at the same time being that blue ra is being made available I'd love to get as sharp as the ultimate without sacrificing the beautiful bokeh when telling stories.

I'm not sure if I would refer to it as sharpness. It's more like a decrease in resolution and loads of resolved detail is part of a "film-like" look. RED footage is pretty film-like.

When you start decreasing resolved detail through adding diffusion it looks strange when on larger screens. For web content, might not matter.

Once you start looking at stuff projected or at 1080 on large 1080 screen the differences start to become much more apparent.

That's not just for Ultimate vs SGpro, but for anything.

I don't recall, but detail coring was either at 0 or at a negative value. We wanted grain. There was no sharpness added in post.

hey koli, have you gotten a chance to see an sgpro on an hvx projected on a 1080 screen yet? Just curious how it holds up on say the hvx or canon a1 in which I own. If anyone else have looked at ie I 'd love to hear comments or the ultimate.

I haven't, personally. Would be a treat.
