SGpro With inverted flip module

The SGpro with the flip module is great, but I think everyone agrees its a funny looking setup. The camera sits up on a massive block of shims, and the whole thing is abit unwieldy.

I decided to buy the zacuto Z riser and turn the flip module up the other way, and I think it has really paid off. In this configuration, the whole system is much neater, its more streamlined, more ballenced and sturdier. Its well worth the money of the z riser. I have also got some 10 inch support rods on order as the current ones are farr to long.

Here are som photos I took with my laptops iSight camera....

the rods have that join in the middle of them. are they un-screwable?
i remember seeing that somewhere.

Looks good Pete but I am worried that the rods will be in frame with wide lenses. This is one reason I am not keen on this config, because you cannot move the rods back since it hits the camcorder.

Swapping the 2 sets of rods around might solve this but may also result in the rods then being too short to mount a mattebox, especially with longer lenses.

No, that is a small groove on the SGpro's rods as a part of the machining process, all have them.

i have a question for you wayne.

with the sgpro sans flip and the FX1/Z1, can you have the rods sticking out the back of the camera... it seems that with the FX1/Z1 and your rods, the quick release gets in the way.

i was planing on having a home-made version of the zacuto shoulder mount on the back of my camera. is it possible?

21 days till my sgpro ships!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, no. Because the SGpro uses standard 85mm spacing from rods centre up to lens centre, this naturally places the QR plate lower than the rods.

This is solved if using the flip module.

how about if you flip the piece holding the rods upside down. that would give a few extra millimeters of room? is that possible?
